When people join our fred’s fan club email list we always ask what other types of
products they wish we made. Guess what is number one on the list? Underwear! So,
we’ve been exploring pantyland for some time, trying to find you the funnest options
around. This month we are thrilled to present Tooshies, the new underwear line from
New York City cutie Charlotte Ronson. We recently met up with Charlotte in her store
on Elizabeth Street and dished about panties and puppies.
Hey Charlotte! Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us! So, what’s your look like these days?
Anything comfy like jeans. When the sun shines, my espadrilles…
We LOVE your Tooshies underwear line, so perfect for chillin’ this summer.
Got any fun summer plans?
Lots of work, never ending. I might go to the SCARY Hamptons this summer as my boyfriend has a couple of projects out there.
We know your sister and brother are DJ’s here in NYC. You must listen to some crazy beats in your design studio! Anything new we should run out and buy?
I am lucky enough to hear sneak previews… My sister is coming out with an album under Rocafella and so is my brother, who is producing his own under Elektra. I also listen to whatever my sister downloads onto my iPod, everything from Nikka Costa, Jay-Z, Fiona Apple, Elliot Smith, Missy Elliot, Fleetwood Mac, etc.
What are some of your fave hangouts in NYC?
Joey's Restaurant/Bar in the East Village, The Breakfast Club in the West Village.
We love your store on Elizabeth Street! It’s cute and fun and unpretentious. What’s it like to have your own shop?
So much fun. I love the area! It's great for me to learn more about my customers and discover what they like or don't like. I also get to support all my friends I believe in by featuring their items in the shop.
What are some of your other fave stores in NYC? In LA?
I shop mostly vintage so here in New York City I love Eleven, Atomic Passion, Language, etc. In Los Angeles there’s Tracey Ross, Ron Herman, Fred Segal Flair, American Rag… and, always, EBAY!
What’s been the funnest thing about having your own business? What’s the hardest thing?
The funnest thing – maybe the most unbelievable thing – is when I'm out and someone I don't know is wearing one of my designs. That always puts a big smile on my face!!!! The hardest thing is everyday work screw-ups and struggles that you can't just switch off when you get home since your name is on the label.
I want to know what love is… Who or what is your current obsession?
My three puppies!!! There’s Marlboro (Maltese), Jack and Oliver (both Chihuahuas).
What’s this about Jay-Z giving you a shout-out in one of his songs?
My brother got an early copy of the Blueprint album and I was so excited when I heard it! I never thought that would ever happen… Since both my siblings are DJ’s they would always play it out at night and repeat the "C. Ronson" part. It was nice at first but then it got to be a little embarrassing…
