Don Carney and John Ross of Patch
NYC were
actually our very first fred friends interview back in the summer of
2001. At that time we chatted all about their new website but the real
news was yet to come as their delightful 8th Avenue shop opened shortly
thereafter. This Holiday we’ve debuted a small Patch NYC in-store
boutique here at fredflare.com and
thought it’d be fun to check
in with these talented designers/retailers/cuties. Click
here to read our other chat with Patch NYC.
Hi, boyz! So, it's been over two years since you first opened your shop.
Wow, time flies! What's been the most surprising thing about having your
own store?
The most surprising thing has been the variety of customers who come to
our shop and tell us how much they enjoy Patch NYC. We’ve met women
and men of all different age groups from all over the world! It's so great
when someone tells us about a piece they have from an earlier collection
because it shows how they've followed the line.
And what's been the most difficult?
Dealing with a tiny space... typical New York.
Crush Alert… Who or what are you
crushed-out on these dayz?
Sonia Rykiel's crazy sequined flapper sweaters for fall and our friend
Melissa Joy Manning's amazing handmade jewelry.
We know you go to Paris a lot. What are some of your fave things about
gai Paree?
We love to walk all over and discover new treasures each time we're there.
We always come back to New York feeling so inspired. We enjoy the flea
markets, cafe au laits, the Marais and all the delicious white wine!
Time Machine... If you could travel back in time, what era would you love
to live in?
Paris in the 1920's.
We know you love flea markets. What fun finds have landed on your radar
recently?
Right now we're into vintage holiday decorations.
Hey Mr. DJ... What music is spinning in the Patch NYC offices?
Right now we’re into Missy Elliot, Latin salsa, Rufus Wainwright,
Debbie Harry's Koo Koo, the Chicago soundtrack
(although we skip some songs) and Leona Naess.
What are you boyz doing for the Holidays this year? Any NYC Holiday traditions?
Our shop always gets super crazy during the Holidays so our NYC Holiday
tradition is to get out of town as fast as possible and relax with our
families.
What advice could you give our readers interested in starting up an accessories
line?
Do your research and see what's out there! Push yourself creatively and
be original. Buyers are always looking for something new.
If you weren't doing Patch NYC, what would be your fantasy careers?
