11 years ago today, Keith and I moved to New York City… That same day Princess Diana died in a fatal car crash in Paris. I’ll never forget that day for as long as I live. It was like the best worst day of my life. Well, Keith and I are still in New York and about to open our very first door store and in the midst of all the craziness I just wanna take a moment to remember the sweetest Princess that ever lived! Diana, we’ll never forget you!

Hi again. Whoa, am on a blog roll today… Just wanted to share this superfun news. We just sold our 1000th Juno cheeseburger phone! I can’t believe it. I love this thing but wasn’t sure it would sell – who has a land line these days anyway? – but I’m always surprised by what takes off (and by bombs, but that’s another story.) Guess who’s going to McDonald’s after this post?

Here’s a new addition to our book shop that I think is genius. Raina Lee’s Hit Me with Your Best Shot is a superfun celebration/how-to on RULING the mic. It’s really fun and features ROARSOME graphics from design crush Mike Perry. As if I needed another reason to be crushed out on that dude.
Or… maybe you’re more in the mood to boogie? Then hopefully you’ll enjoy my new playlist on the boombox. I am super feeling disco right now so I threw in a few wacky fun jams that I hope you’ll like. I love that one that goes, “Scooby Doo, run, run, run…” Well, that’s not really what they say but it sure sounds like it. Check it out! Hope you have a fun weekend. Rock on!

Happy Friday! Meant to chat about this earlier but recently Chris, Roxy and I put together this cake recipe for design*sponge. It’s super yummy and Roxy did such a beautiful job with the illustrations. Check out the full feature here.

Hi again blog readers, how has your day been? I woke up yesterday prepared for a very tightly planned schedule:
1. Take care of some (no fun whatsoever) banking/financial business.
2. Go to work and get y’all’s orders shipped.
3. Rush home and move things between apartments (second to last trip!).
4. Then hop over to midtown Manhattan for my first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class.
Needless to say, I was elated to find a voicemail from Jen, saying that I could have the day off, waiting for me when I turned my phone on aboveground on the way to work. (Long side note for guys and gals alike: if you don’t already do so, turn your phone off while in the subway! Its signal searching sends waves shooting directly into your sensitive lower halves.) The elimination of that step obviously allowed my moving plans to fit into a much wider timeframe, so I browsed through some art I’ve done as I was packing it up. Here are some of my favorites that I rediscovered.

Being an Illustrator, I don’t get much chance to do purely abstract art. The nostalgia I felt today when I saw these again taught me to cherish the times that I do. I will ensure that expression like that will always have some place in my visual vocabulary. There’s an artist inside each and every one of us waiting to be let out, and abstraction is often the easiest starting point for people, so give it a go! Bust out some markers and any drawing surface and get scribbling. I’d love to see what you guys come up with!

**DON’T TRUST THE BETCH ALERTZ** Tim’s tough love gets the designers creative engines revved up. Jerrell and Korto are hating on two-faced Terri. Bad Mommy and Season 3 alum Laura Bennett puts Keith in the naughty chair when he gets a ‘tude. And a certain rat puff won’t be bothering Tommy anymore. Thank you โ love your face!

The designers are directed to a rooftop parking garage where they’re met by Timlicious and Chris Webb, the lead color designer for Saturn vehicles. There are several Saturn Vue Hybrids and each is filled with extra car parts that will be the designers materials. They only have four minutes – Madooona, tick tock, tick, tock – to grab what they can. Tim told the designers to BE INNOVATIVE โ this is a chance to redeem themselves from slacking off in the Gristedes challenge. The winner will earn immunity, but they’ve only got four minutes, four minutes!! With no time to sketch the designers were especially out of sorts – at first. But the end results were extraordinary. Ratbones’ old lady Stella pushed herself out of her box by doing a pale colored, feminine skirt. Not bad โ but it did clash with the lace up leathuh vest she paired it with. On the runway Kors tells her the look is random and she politely thanks him. Oh Stella!

Korto did a mod swing coat woven out of champagne seat belts. In shape and styling it wasn’t so unlike the Jackie O. caftan she did in the Gristedes challenge. The judges thought it superchic and elegant. Guest Judge Rachel Zoe said she’d wear it out the door. Avante-Garde Feist Leanne took black car seats and made Paris couture! She fashioned an elegant ruffle along the sweetheart neckline, carefully reworking and fraying the edges of a seat belt until it looked like raw silk. Her strapless and structural minidress made Tim say, ‘Wow!’ Michael Kors thought it was fabulous, interesting and beautifully crafted. It blew Rachel Zoe away. Avante-Garde Feist was das winner (yay)! Then there’s Keith. The gay jock from Utah couldn’t handle the criticism he received in the bottom two last week. He blamed his model & the judges for his tore up seat cover skirt & tank top design. Ultimately his lack of concept really bothered the judges – especially Laura Bennett (sitting in for Nina) – so Keith was sent upstairs to pack up his space. He only had 4 minutes.

Are you ready to rock?! Are you ready to rumble?! Are you ready to dance????!! Cause we are fully loaded today at fred flare. As many of you might know (or not know) I used to be in a band back in Utah called CCQB. It was my first time performing live, and I totally could have used a little backup to learn the ropes. Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls is the perfect instruction manual to get started, plus the excerpts from Sleater- Kinney and The Gossip (I love them!) are totally rad. Another bit of info about me is that I love choreographed dances. Robyn- are you with me? The Best Dance Moves… Ever book is just the the thing for my guilty pleasure. I’m pretty serious about teaching everyone here at work the thriller. If we are going to do it properly though, I’m going to have to ask that all the girls wear the Betsey Johnson legwarmers during practice. They will go perfectly with any dance unitard. So before I start the countdown, you better get started and CLICK THE PIX TO PURCH THE MERCH!

Everywhere I turn it’s Hills, Hills, Hills! But before I go off, I wanted to give huge thanks to Sarah Jane for her awesome coverage of this season of The Hills. You rawk SJ… Here’s a big round of applause! Okay, on to the dish. I left this as a comment on yesterday’s Hills post but I wanted to share it with the group. You might wanna sit down for this one. So, in the paper yesterday they posted all The Hills stars’ salaries per episode. I was shocked at how high they were. Check it out: Lauren Conrad – $75K, Heidi & Spencer – $65K ea, Audrina – $35K, Whitney – $20K, Brodz – $10K, Lo – $10K and Stephanie – $8K. LC is the obvz star of the show and thus rakes in the most dough but she also has it in her contract that “no one could ever get paid more that her.” Money’s too tight to mention… NOT!

How totes excited are you for the debut of the 2008 version of 90210? I’m completely besides myself… It’s like 1992 all over again. Ah, the good ole dayz. Okay, check out Jenny Garth and Shannen Doherty, both reprising their orig roles as Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh, looking FIERCEE on the cover of EW! It’s so funny how we’re all completely obsessed with the old stars and no one seems to care about the newbies… They better bring it, juss sayin’! And Tori, just take the friggin’ paycheck… I need Donna Martin in my life! For more info on the hawtest TV premieres, click here.

This news was just way too funny to pass up. Solange Knowles, who’s trying to desperately to pull an Ashlee Simpson and step outta her big sister’s spotlight, pulled a big faux-pas during this interview on a local Las Vegas TV station. So, before the interview began, the interviewer asked So if it’d be okay if she asked her why Jay Z’s Las Vegas Club 40/40 closed and So was like HAIL NO! But she was all cornfused ’cause she thought the question was asked live but it was totes off camera. AWKWARD! Well, watch for yourself… But do it quickly ’cause I’m sure the Knowles machine is gonna pull this down in one hawt sec. Um, humble pie honey. Try some!

Hope you’re having a great Wednesday. Can’t believe we’re at the middle of the week already. Soooo much to do! I wish I had some robots to help me… Until then, I’m going to settle for these super cute robot calculators that just came in. They’re so amazing! Some other fun robot-themed items and the return of the colorblock talking Japanese watches plus a TON of new arrivals all happening today in what’s new! Have a beep boop beep day!
