JK WEDDING DANCE posted by Keith comments (3)

Have seen this video on a few blogs recently and LOVE it. Defs check it out if you haven’t seen it. I think it’s so sweet and, what’s more, it’s had over 13 million views! I love how the couple featured, blown away by the attention, set up a website to direct this positivity towards a good cause, the Sheila Wellstone Institute. Very cool. Click here to learn more.

PLAYING HOUSE posted by Keith comments (5)

The orig title of this ecard was “Housewives ‘n Househusbands” but it got rejected cuz I guess the word “housewife” set off the SPAM alert? So I changed it to, “Wanna play house?” but I kinda think that almost naughtier. Sorry about that! Truth is I’m somewhat of a househusband lately and PROUD. Just made a tuna casserole for CJ for lunch and he was like, This is the best meal I’ve ever had! Yo, I can bring home the bacon AND fry it up in a pan.

The other thing that’s somewhat noteworthy about this ecard is I literally own EVERYTHING featured and I’m SO not just saying that. Just placed an online order a couple days ago for the new house, I swear! Here’s proof from an iChat I had yesterday with Jen…

Oh wow, Mo’s probably gonna kill me for saying this but for those of you who are newer to the blogginz and don’t know what a doodlebug is, it’s basically a drawing request. You can see lots of old ones here. I don’t really chat them up so much like I used to cuz they got kinda outta hand but, even without a single mention in the last year, people STILL leave us the funniest doodle requests in the special instructions at checkout. Mo does such an AMAZING job on them. He cracks me up! I requested a self-portrait and below is what I got. Oh Mo, I love you so much!

Shakira is naughty posted by Jen comments (4)

Shakira looks spectacular! This is a leaked version of her She Wolf vid… And it’s a little dirty, Beyoncé style. I bet all those dancers out there are gonna remake this video like the Single Ladies video… But where will they get cages!? I’m amazed when people move like this… She’s also in the best shape EVER! And her moves are playing tricks on me!

HOT SHOT DEBUT: SPIN YOU ROUND posted by fred flare comment

I don’t know if you had a spyro gyro pen as a kid, but my sister did, and I wanted it in a bad way. Any girl that grew up in the 80′s or early 90′s hopefully is familiar with this little gem. I’m glad to see that it has stood the test of time and made its way to the fred flare menu of novelties. I also love the happy animal time postcard set. The illustrations look like old screenprints, and are of the cutest animals. I can’t wait to send one to my mom. Lastly, do you see those black framed glasses? They are a USB flash drive. I love when technology arrives in disguise. CLICK THE PIX TO PURCH THE MERCH!

This Girl’s Gossip posted by Jen comments (8)

Taylor Momsen graces the cover of Teen Vogue’s September issue… And she looks so bad ass! Bangs, leather, chunky jewelry and heels! She chats a lot about her rock-n-roll side, her band The Pretty Reckless, boys her age and how she almost became Hannah Montana. Here’s more:

On being mature for her age: “I live a very adult life: I have two different careers; I’m on tour. What am I going to do, hang out with the high school kids? I just can’t relate to what they talk about—it seems so petty … My parents know that I’m not going to date someone who’s sixteen. Boys are so much less mature than girls as it is; there’s just no way— I would eat a boy my age alive.” (BOLD STATEMENT!)

On her rock-n-roll look and sound: “I had long, pretty hair, and it didn’t fit me. I’m pretty, but I’m not, like, a “pretty girl.” So I pulled up a bunch of photos of Joan Jett and said, “Do that to my hair.” There was a distinct change in my wardrobe, too, and I know people were a little, um, taken aback. But it wasn’t me that changed—it was just that I decided to start being myself. Now I do my own makeup, my own hair, and dress myself, and it feels better … I would never want to do something in music that isn’t representing me—I’d feel like I was faking myself. I wanted to have it all done so I could say, “Here’s who I am, either you like it or you don’t.”

On whether she’s relieved she didn’t get chosen for Hannah Montana after being a finalist: “I think it’s a great opportunity for Miley, but yeah, I guess I am relieved. If I had gotten the part, it would be a very different show. It wouldn’t have worked for me. I push back.”

I want this to go down so bad… I’m ok not having Skreech, but the rest of them are a must-have. Zack Morris, A.C. Slater, Lisa Turtle, Jessie Spano and Kelly Kapowski all need to be brought back to life! I can’t believe People magazine covered this! Check out the issue, it includes “The hookups, the meltdowns, the memories: The cast reveals what was really going on… and what they think of each other now.”

KATHLEEN LEWIS posted by Keith comments (10)

Am so sad to learn that my friend Kathleen Lewis passed away on July 23rd.

I’d known Kathleen for about ten years. We met at the lovely store Auto when we were both starting our businesses. Chris and I had just created a little stationery line called Fred Flare and Kathleen was just beginning to expand her namesake line of handmade soaps, lotions and candles. The folks at Auto helped both of us reach so many new and exciting customers, like Colette in Paris, and so I’ve always seen her as a sort of classmate.

Both our businesses changed over the years that followed but we kept in touch. Chris and I loved her candles – we pretty much spend every evening by candlelight thanks to Kathleen – and would order them from her in cases of 36 at a time, even more at the Holidays. The scents were amazing all natural and the packaging so simple and beautiful. Kathleen did some fun things for us too, like remember way back when we used to do Nancy Drew reviews? Kathleen made a limited-edition rose-scented Nancy Drew travel candle just for us! I remember meeting with her in her Dumbo studio about it and, I have to tell you, the place was IMMACULATE. So beautiful, organized and serene, despite the fact that Kathleen did EVERYTHING herself.

We’d see Kathleen at trade shows too and always stop by for a visit. Kathleen would tell us amazing stories, like how Keri Russell was OBSESSED with her Honey Dream Cream and would chat it up on talk shows and stuff. I guess Keri would even phone Kathleen directly to reorder it. Chris and I would be all bug-eyed, “Wait a minute. FELICITY calls you???”

Then, I dunno, Chris and I started this thing where whenever we really wanted something to happen, we would light one of Kathleen’s candles. Mostly it was silly things like we’d been sending samples to Oprah for years and years and finally we thought they might feature something of ours so we lit one of Kathleen’s candles and hoped hoped hoped… and it totally worked!

About a year ago Chris was having trouble finding a new photographer and had been through several HI-lariously bad interviews. Jen invited her friend Chaunté to come in and try out for the job and we wanted SO bad for Chris to like Chaunté that Jen and I secretly lit a candle back in the warehouse. “Smells like something’s burning,” Chris said. “Oh, it’s nothing!!!!” I shrugged. Anyway, Chaunté totally got hired and I love her so much.

Do you remember how Chris had these big jars of gumballs at the store in the Spring? I had emailed Kathleen to see if she could recommend a good source for glass jars cuz I loved the simple ones she used. And plus I wanted to order some more candles… She emailed me right back saying, “I am in the hospital and I may be here awhile… I will follow up on candles when I can.” I didn’t learn until many months later that Kathleen was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.

I kept in touch a bit with her husband Larry and we tried to coordinate a visit but it just never quite came together. I deeply regret not getting to see Kathleen again. I was out of town quite a bit trying to get this house upstate I keep talking about… It got a little stressful there at the end and when we were waiting to hear if we were going to close, I figured I better light another Kathleen Lewis candle. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any more.

But I remembered Diane at work had one in her desk, a fir scented candle we gave her one Christmas. I was working from home but called her at the warehouse to ask if she’d light that candle for me. I just needed to know it was there. A little wish, a little hope, a little excitement, a little dream.

True to form, you worked your magic one last time for me, Kathleen. I’m sitting here in my very own home as I write this. It’s past midnight. The rain is pouring outside. And the only lights on in the house are a couple candles. Missing you.

BEHIND THE MUSIC posted by Keith comments (7)

Good evening! Hope you’re doing awesome. I am still up at the house and man, it’s been raining for nearly 24 hours straight. SO much rain. Just going with it. Took a break from work and made a batch of granola, seemed like a good rainy day kinda thing to do. Anyway, what did you think of today’s ecard? I always LOVE learning little behind-the-scenes stories behind products so I thought this could be a fun format to try… Gonna try and make a series out of it maybe? Dunno. Would love feedback. Thx!
