We've been slowly packing up the apartment in the city, getting ready for our big move to the country in January. My big project this week was to go through my giant trunk of photos and PURGE. It was really daunting at first, but then I got really into it. Trashing photos of loser old friends but also cherishing fond memories... Then I found pix from when we started FF.
Check these out, from our very first trade show: The National Stationery Show in NYC. This was before we did retail... We designed mostly paper products the home. Our booth was in the basement of the Javitz Center. We had a light-up table and a "Hi" sign... We were so cute. It was an amazing experience... We took orders from Urban Outfitters, Paperchase in London and tons of little boutiques. We were well on our way.
Here's Keith in set up mode. He says he has a pooch in this photo, but I think he looks hawt. So cute and baby young!
Keith's Mom, Anne and her step-daughter Adaire schlepped out to NYC to help us with the booth. Check out my bib-overalls. I miss those so much.
Here's the 2 Cathy's. Cathy Weisberg (left) was a local NYC printer. She really believed in us. We always owed her money, but she never complained. And then Kathy O. (right), she was a fashion designer who sewed our fabric pieces. Srsly, if it wasn't for those 2 women, there'd be no FF.
And speaking of the woman behind FF... There's Anne. Our eternal cheerleader, literally. Anne, we could not have done Fred Flare without all of your love and support over the past 15 years. Thank you sooooo much. xo
The store may be closed (I'm still really sorry about that), but the blog AND the Boombox remain to delight and entertain. I just added 2 new Boombox playlists. "Deciembre" is my fave tunes ala mode and then "Holidaze" is some of my fave non-classic Xmas hitz. Enjoy!
Guess what my fave song is this week? By the name of this post, I guess you can guess. It's Timber by Pitbull and Ke$ha. I can't get it outta my head... I just LOVE the ho-down, party vibe so much. I'm usually not such a huge Pitbull fan (although I do a mean Pitbull scream impression), he always seemed like such a sunglasses wearing dude, but I think he looks sooo CUTE in this vid. Check his facefull o freckles! I'm hooked. And, of course, me likey Ke$ha. Steer clear, it's going down...
Okay, let me tell you the most important thing about us... Keith's stepdad was a clown and mine owned a carnival. It's totes true! So, making people happy has always been in our DNA.
Oh dear, that's a loaded question. Before I get into it, I just want to thank everyone for leaving such amazing comments in the guest book. It means the world to Keith and I that we've touched people lives in such a positive way. Thank you so much!!!! We LOVE you tonz.
Okay, on to the dirt...
I have found my new tv obsesh... Les Revenants AKA The Returned! I do fancy myself quite the TV aficionado, I feel like I've seen it all, but this new show pushes all my "good" buttons. It's a French show (yes, there are subtitles, not my first choice, but I got over it in the first 20 secs, and besides, it helps me brush up on mon francais) that takes place is a little town in the Alps where all these formerly dead peeps mysteriously return. There's a child, a teen girl, a young groom and a serial killer!!!
Now, you may be thinking Zombies or Vamps, and while this show does fall in the Zombie genre, there's no rotting corpses or blood thirty walkers. Instead, the dead have returned in perfect form, they don't sleep but boy, do they have the munchies and they're trying to figure out WTF is going on and how to put their lives back together. The "alive" townspeople are pretty freaked themselves. There's also weird things happening the town... the reservoir is loosing water, the power it out and there's mass animal suicides... Spookilicous, stunning and beautiful.
It's kinda like The Walking Dead meets Top of the Lake meets Broadchurch meets Twin Peaks... A perfect recipe for my new fave show. Steven King even tweeted that he's a fan! There's still two more episodes until the finale, so get ye in marathon mode. Tout de suite.
If you thought the 20 minz of our pilot TV ep was too much to commit to, here's the initial 3-minute "sizzle" reel that we used to sell the show. It gives the same kinda vibe, but in a quickie way. Enjoy!
Finally got our lil' tinsel tree set up at the house Upstate. I LOVE it! And Charlie was a huge help... As always. Happy Meow'lidays!
Check out how ah'mahzing Beyonce looks in these pics from her vacay in Jamaica. Love the retro vibe, love the abs, LOVE the red-stained lips. I swear, she looks like she's a teenager except of course for the one where she's all body builder fierce. Even baby sis, Solange stopped by for a vizzy to hang in the pick-up truck. A new day is dawning... Keith and I have just rented our new office space Upstate. It's a tiny little room in downtown Kingston. It's gonna be a perfect place for us to cook up our next great adventure. One problem, we can't decide on a name. The door has a glass panel, very Moonlighting, so Keith wants to call it Something-Something Detective Agency. I teased that I'm gonna be David Addison and he's Maddy Hayes. The prob is, my mind is elsewhere. I like the name PIONEER. I feel like that's more of what I have to say for the future... You know, treading new territory. Whataya think?
