I’ll never forget that day 6 yrs ago. Keith and I were at the gym in the morning and when we left the city seemed to be acting crazy. This van was running a red light and honking like nuts. We’re were too busy staring at the van to realize that the driver was pointing at the first tower which had already been hit. Then we got home and were walking up our stairs we heard this roar of voices. It sounded like a football game was in our lobby. Turns out the 2nd tower had just been hit. By the time I got to work I could tell something insane was happening. I left work and walked over to 6th Ave… I had a clear view of the 2 bldgs on fire and smoldering. The world had suddenly changed right before my eyes. I turned to see my boss in the crowd… He was crying. I just started running home to Keith. When I got there he had no idea what had happened. We turned on the TV and it was all over already. The 1st tower had fallen and the world definitely changed…
Then I got a call from my friend from back home in Joliet, Rita. She was working in New York that day and was trapped uptown. She was kicked out of her hotel. So, I got on my bike to save Rita. It was all I had. I had a mission. So, I biked uptown to where Rita was. She was lost in a huge mob of people, all confused and upset. I put Rita on my bike and headed home… Downtown, against the flow and into the fire zone. The city already started smelling really weird. Like burnt metal and smoke! The 3 of us just kinda wondered around for the next couple of days. I thought we were gonna have to close fred flare and leave New York. We just didn’t think anyone would go shopping again. I mean, who’d want pink notebooks after this happened. Well, you all came back that holiday and really saved our lives. I just wish someone could have saved all those lived at the World Trade Center that day. All our hearts go out to everyone who lost someone that day. We’ll never forget or stop trying to live each day full of love and hope!
