Been reading quite a bit of press on Kate Nash lately so I downloaded her album yesterday. I really like it. She’s done super well in the UK so I realize this is old news to our Brit readers but her album’s official US release was just about ten days ago so we’re behind. Here’s a pretty clip from her single “Foundations”. Anyone else care to recommend some new discoveries? Am in the market for some new beats. What’s on your radar?
Whoa! That is grrreat! Amazon recommended her to me, and I think I’m a fan! I love her accent and words like ‘trainers’ and ‘mates.’ It’s also cool how the socks, watches, and toothbrushes decide to spoon for a minute. As for new music, I’ve been reading lots of buzz about the latest from Cat Power. I don’t know much else about the latest pop and such, but if you’d like to discover some great ‘new’ artists, let me know, homeslice!

I’m really falling in love with this band called The Heavy Pets. They have a John Butler Trio vibe and are great to drive to

Kate Nash is so good.
Lately I’ve been listening to Broken Social Scene, Mirah, and Some Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.
Ooo and you should check out Nouvelle Vague if you don’t already know them. They do, like, bossa nova covers of New Waves songs. Very cool.

you should totally listen to chrisette michele, mainly her song be ok is fantasic, the video is really cute too. vampire weekend is also fabu, and i’m from barcelona is a really kitchy band that has 29 members
something not so new: panic at the disco. their new album is coming out in march and their single “Nine in the Afternoon” comes out on the 29th. Their new stuff is very different from their old stuff…it’s more beatles-esque. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce-EXA7sLfk

I keep hearing buzz about her, and I must say that I really like “Foundations.” I think I’ll check out more from her.
Oh, and my recs: Tegan and Sara, Juno soundtrack, Say Anything, and The Format (especially their song “The First Single.” Sooooo good.)

Wow. FF Lovers have good taste in music! I agree with Jess, The Hush Sound is an awesome really fun band. And I agree with Julia, The Format is my FAVORITE band! Both their albums are fantastic! OH! And Steph, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin IS a good band! And my personal recommendation is McFly because I love those boys and they don’t get enough publicity in the States.

I love Kate Nash! I love the video for that song “Foundations” I love her accent too.
They’re not new, but I love Me First and The Gimme Gimmes. They’re strictly a cover band, and even have a total album devoted to Musicals(Broadway and otherwise) Including Phantom Of The Opera and Rainbow Connection(Yes, the Kermit The Frog song)
Anywho, each of their albums are themed, and their newest album(out of 6) is all covers of country songs.
Nice pick, I like that girl!
Go check out “Breakin Up” by Rilo Kiley (from the Under the Blacklight album) and Coconut Records’ “Nighttiming” album. Ooh, it feels good to be free!!

Dang, Little J is right, FF readers *do* have good taste!! I am not 100% familiar with the newest peeps on the pop scene, but I have a few recommendations (just took a cruise through my iTunes for inspiration): I got the new Fiery Furnaces album, “Widow City,” for Christmas, and it’s pretty excellent, if you like out-there indie. Tilly and the Wall are also very good (I think they have a new album, I only have the first one, “Wild Like Children”), and instead of a drummer? They have a tap dancer. Amazing! If you are feeling a bit raucous, Gogol Bordello’s always fun. They are “gypsy punk” and frontman Eugene Hutz belts out the songs with unbridled enthusiasm….and a deliciously thick Ukrainian accent. Oh, and you already know about Mika, right? He’s a Lebanese-born, Opera-trained British pop star who released one of the best, IMO, albums of 2007 (“Life in Cartoon Motion.”) It is not your usual pop, but it is oh-so-delicious, and absurdly addictive. That’s all I got for now, I’ll add to this if I think of anything more! xoxo, Bee

*cough* Sorry, K, but I have to drop in my obligatory Tokio Hotel plug in here: For anyone who doesn’t know, Tokio Hotel are a super-amazing German rock band, who just won France’s NRJ award for “Best Group/Duo International.” Their first US single, “Scream America!” dropped on 11 December (K – I’m sending you lot a copy, just as soon as I mail it), and they are playing a mini-tour of North America in February. Montreal, Toronto, LA, and finishing on the 18th with a sold-out show at NYC’s Irving Plaza. You should definitely check them out, folks! (http://myspace.com/tokiohotel) Ok, I’m done now. xoxo, Bee

Ok…Alice Smith!! She’s semi-new, and she’s sooo good. I recommend a song called “Woodstock.” Also, I’m hooked on that song from the new Mac commercial called “New Soul” by Yael Naim. The video is rocking, too!! It’s a feast for the ears AND the eyes!! I’m a little late here, but do try and check out these two lovelies. They have talent in spades.
