Can someone tell me how we’re already on episode 5 of the current season of Mad Men? Time is FLYING by, and it makes me sad to think that, before I know it, the season will be over. I recognize, however, that I need to take a step back and really appreciate the beauty that has been these first five episodes. I think the season is really living up to all the hype it received, ESPECIALLY with this last episode under its belt. So much drama! The focus of the episode centered mostly around Pete, who in my opinion seems to want his life to be a lot more trying and exciting than it is so that he can fit in with the Dons and Rogers of the ad world. And clearly, he’s not exactly well-liked… which brings me to Lane. Without giving too much away, what I enjoyed most about this episode was getting to see a more in-depth portrayal of Lane’s character. On the surface, he seems like a pretty ordinary guy, but as the season progresses, we’re learning that there is a LOT more to him than meets the eye. Perhaps life away from the comfort of home is driving him over the edge… we’ll have to wait and see! Don and Megan finally make it over to the Campbells’ for a lovely dinner in the suburbs, and they are definitely the most stylin’ and attractive couple at the table.

Toward the end of the episode, Lane has had quite enough of Pete’s pompous attitude and deliberate exploits, so he challenges him to a duel! And nobody stops them!

While Lane arguably emerges the winner of the fisticuffs, he doesn’t stay redeemed for too long. Back in his office, he decides it would be a great idea to give Joan a big smooch. She immediately gets up and opens the door, and considers the event totally forgotten in the rest of their conversation–but I have to say, I saw this coming, and something tells me it may very well happen again.
