We need some serious old school Nickelodeon appreciation up in here! Like everyone here at FF, I am a HUGE TV nerd – I watch bad reality shows, good reality shows, sitcoms, teen shows… However, THIS is a batch of shows that I miss like craaaazy – I wish TV was still like this! I grew up watching Nickelodeon and believe me, these are just *some* of my favz! I love The Adventures of Pete & Pete and game shows like Nick Arcade were SO cool to me at the time! Anything hosted by Marc Summers was gold. I visited Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios when I was a kid and it was so much fun…How awesome was the Slime Geyser? They tore everything down in 2005, what a bummer! That’s okay, I’m super happy to have gone through one of the best TV times ever! Do you have any Nick favs? Zoey 101 doesn’t count!
I completely agree! old nickelodeon was amazing! do you remember the show that was like random rock climbing and stuff like that. pyramid…something or another? maybe you know what i’m talking about, most likely i’m just rambling! pete and pete probably takes the cake for me though
comment by Kasey Best — February 27, 2008My roomie owns Clarissa and Pete and Pete on DVD. I pretty much loved them all from What Would You Do to Salute Your Shorts. The person above me is talking about Global Guts; which I thought was OK. Of course there was ‘Legends of the Hidden Temple’ which a crafty couple I know sported to an awesome 90s party (way more fun than 80s or 70s and way more ways to be unique!) Old school Disney was way better too (Alice in Wonderland, Gummy Bear show, gnome show (name?), care bears, under the umbrella tree. now all kids have is miley cyrus-bleh. Sorry I have horrible grammar/punctuation here and this post is so long.
comment by Elizabeth — February 27, 2008And I am sad about Universal; but pre-tearing it down; I went to a screening of ‘figure it out’ and met keenan who went to my old middle school.
anyways, this is long.
yess! i loved watching all of those, particularly are your afraid of the dark, pete and pete, along with ones you didn’t add like “hey dude!” and rocko’s modern life. those were the days!
comment by Hope — February 27, 2008Oh, side post, did anybody hate ‘Ahh Real Monsters’ as much as I did?
comment by Elizabeth — February 27, 2008When I used to watch ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’, I used to (ok, still do) get scared, especially on the episode about the thirteenth floor.
Also, who remembers ‘Freshmen’? That show was terrible. And ‘Flash Forward’ rocked; but I don’t even remember exactly what it was about now.
legends of the hidden temple was hilarious! those temple guards are scary…I know you can get those team shirts online somewhere! Nick Guts was okay, they played that an awful lot on that Nick GAS channel, but that has been replaced by the N. Also, I give a huge YES to the Disney show Flash Forward!
comment by Amanda — February 27, 2008OmG, Amanda…best Nickelodeon lineup everrrrr!!!
Hope – stellar additions!
Elizabeth – You hated “Welcome, Freshmen”? I remember that show as being pretty darn funny!
comment by M — February 27, 2008i miss all those shows. it’d be neat if they played them on nick at night
comment by sarah — February 27, 2008ahh real monsters owns! how could you hate it? and it was legends of the hidden temple i was thinking of! thanks elizabeth!
comment by Kasey Best — February 27, 2008‘Doug’ was one of the best shows ever before they made it into a Sat. morning regular on ABC, it all went sour from there. ‘Clarissa’ was pretty awesome too! I have to say “Ahh Real Monsters’ was alright, just depended on the episode. When I was young though I totally wanted to be on Legends of the Hidden Temple, I would’ve rocked it! There’s one other show I can’t remember the name of but I want to say it had 2 red-headed boys and one memorable episode of static electricity and a piece of candy up the kids nose.
comment by Radar — February 27, 2008OMG! i loved clarissa explains it all
comment by smith — February 27, 2008Weinerville
comment by Sara — February 27, 2008hey amanda!! i totes love all those shows also! i didn’t have cable growing up so me and my sis would rent the videos from blockbuster. just to let you know, you can watch a lot of them on websites like sidereel. here are some links: http://www.sidereel.com/Clarissa_Explains_It_All
comment by megan — February 27, 2008http://www.sidereel.com/Are_You_Afraid_of_the_Dark%3F

AHHHH!!
comment by cver — February 27, 2008DOUG! i used to love that show! i totally forgot about it.
comment by spark7 — February 27, 2008COUSIN SKEETER!
comment by jobie — February 27, 2008omg i was totally i huge fan of the old all that! the first season was amazing.
comment by Jamie — February 27, 2008and i also loved the cartoons of course as well. ahh real monsters and hey arnold! BEST! my dream was to be on wild and crazy kids, i thought that was like the coolest thing when i was younger.
tear, i miss it all. 80% of tv shows now suck. booo
these comments are awesome! Radar, I def agree on the Doug pre-ABC thing. I wasn’t too into the new drawings. And thanks for the links, Megan, maybe I’ll squeeze some Are You Afraid Of The Dark after my marathon of Idol, Top Modz, and Runway!
comment by Amanda — February 27, 2008Legends of the Hidden Temple was AWESOME. The silver snakes totally owned. I loved Olmec, that tacky “talking statue,” too. Pete and Pete is a classic also. I also loved the original “All That” before they had to get new, young cast members. =/ Nick was great back in the day though, haha.
comment by mary drue — February 27, 2008Hey Arnold and Doug are may all time favvvvs! Ah Real Monsters scared the crap out of me though. So did Red and Stimpy. I miss old Nickelodeon so bad =( There are NO good cartoons on anymore!! I’m totally in favor of an all 90′s nickelodeon re-run channel! who’s with me?
comment by Jill — February 27, 2008You Can’t Do That on Television (Alanis much?!) and Hey Dude. I also LOVED/was terrified by Are You Afraid of the Dark. The answer = yes. Great post! I wish they’d put those shows out on DVD…or at least bring them back for a Nick at Nite Jr. or something.
comment by Tommy — February 27, 2008All That- first season and Hey Arnold.
comment by Gabby — February 27, 2008Ok, someone needs to give props to the best tv host ever, STICK STICKLY!!! & my absolute favorite nicktoon ever has to be Rocko’s Modern Life!
comment by Elletra — February 27, 2008I personally loved Finders Keepers! I wanted to buy the board game (But how would you really play that at home?) Double Dare was my fave too…I wanted to go up the Sundae Slide. It always ticked me off when kids got their feet all slippery and couldn’t do it. Also, a Nick favorite of mine was Arcade, like you mentioned. The final kid in the actual virtual game was so hilarious. They never could do it!
comment by alexa — February 27, 2008Amanda this is completely non Snick related [though I do miss Clarissa Explains It All and The Secret World of Alex Mack] but remind me that we MUST talk Idol when I come back to work on Monday.
comment by Little J [Jewlie] — February 27, 2008I LOVE CLASSIA EXPLAINS IT ALL!!! i think nick has gone down the drain. night at night is HORRIBLE NOW :0(
comment by Lucille — February 27, 2008WHAT??? WHAT??? There is no slime anymore? Man, that blows. I loved the slime with a …slimy… passion! I have to admit that I’ve never had TV at home so I am not too familiar with Nick shows, but I was a total Doug addict. I miss Doug, we were buds. xoxo, Bee
comment by Bee — February 27, 2008Clarissa Explains it All is one of my favorite shows! My favorite part of old school nick was Stick Stickley and nick in the afternoon.
comment by maggiemaemary — February 27, 2008But alas, nick has gone down the turlet
OH MY GOODNESS!!! YES! I looove old nick shows, and Disney too! The 90s were seriously the best!
comment by Daisy — February 27, 2008stick stickly!! “New york city, new york, state, 1-oh-1-oh-8!” i actually liked ahh real monsters & ren and stimpy! and even the late CatDog
comment by Hope — February 28, 2008damn, “doug” brings back some good memories! i was also a huge fan of “hey arnold”. tv shows just aren’t the same like they were back in the day. here’s to bringing the old skool back! =)
comment by michelle — February 28, 2008Clarissa Explains It All and Are You Afraid of the Dark have to be my top two, and at 12 years old I was in Clarissa heaven. My school went up to Universal for the day, we were all excited because they were filming Clarissa that day, but when we went on our Nick tour, the cast was out for lunch
My poor teacher had 15 sad little pre-teen girls on her hands until we got to the slime kitchen – I was choosen to be the tester, right after I got on stage and they put a funny hat on me they announced that they had a special treat for us – out pops the guys who played Fregison (?) and Sam!! And then it happened – Sam feed me green slime in the Nick Slime Test Kitchen (btw – normal green slime is colored applesauce, and booger green slime is colored vanilla pudding with chuncks of green gummies) anyway that was the highlight of my pre-teen years. . .
also, does anyone remember Space Cases, and Roundhouse? I loved Roundhouse
comment by Lauren — February 28, 2008Hey guys!
comment by Beth — February 28, 2008I absolutely LOVE old Nickelodeon – living in Ireland however hardly anyone but us had the channel here until a few years ago. Half the neighbourhood used to come by my house to watch Clarissa and Are You Afraid of the Dark! No one would watch Doug with me though – losers! They missed out x
Nothing was better than Hey Dude! Christine Taylor was so cute, and I spent everyday waiting for some Brad & Ted romance. Ted was sooooo cute!
comment by Stella — February 28, 2008LOVED space cases. I got so sad when Catalina didn’t make it into the other spaceship. I like to believe Double Dare used a combo of hard floors and gooey stuff only so the contestants can slip and fall all over the place…it was pretty entertaining!!
comment by Amanda — February 28, 2008WOW! I love the old Nickelodeon, it was SO random, and cool. Well, i’m gonna keep missing all the awesome shows. lol.Me and my sister, always used to always watch Are You Afraid Of The Dark. Untill a while ago we stopped, but then I saw how it’s still on. We went CRAZY!!!
comment by Robyn — February 28, 2008LOL!
legends of the hidden temple <3 aww that was a fave! my friends and i all got the team shirts a few months ago. green monkeys all the way for sure! Are you afraid of the dark was also amazing. along with all those pictured above! =) Rocko’s Modern Life! so good. and i like ahh real monsters =| aww i miss good nick AND disney. =( nothings the same
comment by Julia — February 28, 2008alex mack was so so cool. she had so many hats.
i want a post to appreciate baby sitter’s club next. lolllz. remember when we got cupcakes and then watched it?!
comment by neuf — February 29, 2008best thing to ever happen to me was my 3rd grade teacher telling me that her nephew was Big Pete from the Adventures of Pete and Pete, because I was always telling her about the show, low and behold in 4th grade he comes to my school and spends the entire day there. It was one of the best days of my life
comment by Carsi — February 29, 2008I loved them all. Old school Nick was so cool! I loved Pete and Pete, Clarisa, and Salute your shorts!
and Hey Dude! I loved that cheesy show, they all worked on Dude ranches! The best day of my kid life was a day where I stayed home sick and watched reruns of Hey dude and Salute your shorts all day! It was the best day!
And BTW – Carsi you are my Hero!
comment by Jaime — February 29, 2008LOVED hey dude! and doug.
comment by rose — February 29, 2008was ren & stimpy on nick? loved that show too.
enough of that noggin pish-posh.. nick needs to start a whole channel devoted to JUST our beloved 90′s nick shows. it would be HUGE!
comment by emily — February 29, 2008I remember all the late 90′s shows so my favs are old school All That before little spears came on of course!
