Hey there! Did you know that SWV had a new album come out this year? Truth be told, I kinda just discovered it myself. It’s called I Missed Us and it’s GREAT. 2012 is looking like an awesome year for many of my homegirls… Monica had a new record drop in April and I srsly can’t wait for Brandy’s October release of Two Eleven.
All this to say that I’m on deck for this month’s boombox and I’ve pulled a selection of my fave 90′s R&B ladies for ya. Hope you like!! These jams totally remind me of my early twenties when I had just met Chris. I was working in an office and dreaming of one day moving to New York City…
What do they remind you of? Pls have a listen and leave me a comment and you could win a $50 gift certificate. I’ll choose one lucky winner in two weeks.
wow listening to 90′s R7B remind me of sneaking into my brother’s room so I can listing to his CD’s on his stereo player. My list would definitely include Mariah Carey, Monica, Brandy, Faith Evans, Mary J., Jon B., Boyz II Men, All For One, As Yet, Remember No Mercy? And a lot of trance/ house music.
comment by Lynn — July 24, 2012how 3LW get on your list?
Reminds me of middle school singing all the latest girl groups at lunch, FREAKING OUT when the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack came out because it was amazing, trying to sing Salt N Peppa without the teachers hearing us.
comment by twan — July 24, 2012Love it. Excape is a blast from the past. Reminds me of the days when I spent my entire months allowance just to buy the Miseducation of Lauren Hill. Thanks for the great tunes.
comment by Breezy — July 24, 2012This mix totes makes me think our winning Fry/Superior Street combo.

comment by Jen — July 26, 2012Oh, man! They all remind me of middle school. Lauren Hill and Erika Badu were the baddest.
comment by Phoebe — July 27, 2012reminds me of before i had a cell phone. simpler times man. and also, moon pies. but idk why.
comment by kara — August 6, 2012Old school Mary J., before her ego took over! It takes me back to a time where I thought I thought I knew everything. I guess I had the same ego as Mary J.
comment by Sand — August 6, 2012This definitely reminds me all the roller rink birthday parties we had in middle school. This is the music that the d.j. always played.
comment by holly cooper — August 6, 2012Middle school flashback for me! I simply love this 90′s boombox playlist!!! I forgot all about SWV and Jade lol. Ahhh to be in middle school again…not a care in the world, no job, no kids, no bills. I needed this today..THANKS!
comment by Katherine Dunn — August 6, 2012This reminds me when I was 12, lots of retro going on in this!
comment by Lisa Hawkes — August 6, 2012Holy flashback! Reminds me of my 8 year old self hearing all of these songs on TV. Although at the time I was too busy obsessing over the Spice Girls and trying to be like Baby Spice. I sported platform sneakers, pigtails, I even dressed as her for Halloween.
comment by Rachel — August 6, 2012It reminds me of those nights spent with my best friend when we would crank up the music and just dance! We would eat Lays and drink Capri sun in our pajamas and facial masks, then paint our nails and sing along. I miss those days!
comment by Hannah — August 6, 2012These tunes take me back to summers that seemed to never end, when I’d go to my cousin’s house to make mix-tapes of all the songs we’d heard on Top of the Pops. I’d take the tape home and play it over and over, trying to learn all the lyrics to TLC, Britney Spears and Boyz II Men. It reminds me of the fashion that was still taking references from the 80s, yet striving to be modern and fresh. All the female R&B artists of that era had silky smooth voices which is so iconic now.
comment by Eve Lucas — August 6, 2012Nelly!!! what?!? HECK YES and who doesn’t love the thong song!!!! & some bananarama to top it all off! AWESOME tracks
comment by Kati — August 6, 2012The Mariah Carey definitely takes me back to the nineties. I think I like her earlier work better than the more recent stuff. Anyways, I can definitely remember my mom blasting it in the house and car all the time and my baby sister (3 y.o) jamming out. Good times, but I gotta’ say I don’t mind the ones we’re living in.
comment by Andrea Vara — August 6, 2012Reminds me the summer before junior year of high school when my friends and I hung out at the park at night laughing and creeping each other out with half arsed scary stories, haha:)
