Oh, I have the saddest news to report on this otherwise beautiful day. French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent passed away in his Paris home yesterday at the age of 71. The exact cause of death is currently unknown, but reports say that Yves had been suffering from a long term illness.
Yves was a fashion protegé in the 1950′s taking over as lead designer of the house of Christian Dior at 21. Along with Dior and Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent was one of the fashion mega houses that defined Paris as the fashion capital of the world. We’ll miss him greatly as the fashion world mourns this mega talent. Haute Couture forevz!
oh no! this is so sad! I live in Montreal and right now at the Fine Arts Museum there’s a beautiful exibition of YSL couture. I went last week and it was amazing! it’s so weird, the exibition just started a week ago and now poor Yves is gone. Aurevoir monsieur Saint Laurent.

comment by cver — June 2, 2008This is very sad news. He was a total design powerhouse, and I think that many of today’s design peeps could take a lesson. I hate that he suffered from depression, but his truly had a great gift that will surely live on.
