Hello, new favorite TV show! The Mindy Project has been doing a great job filling the Community-shaped hole in my heart (pushed back? Again?), but I just watched the pilot for Nashville, and it has consumed every one of my thoughts since. I love Connie Britton and I love country music and I love this show!

The set up is a little Country Strong-esque— reigning Queen of Country Music sees her numbers slipping as the Next Big Thing comes along, taking no prisoners in her quest for the throne— and I’m so on board. Hayden Panettiere is a pocket-sized piece of work as Juliette Barnes, the young, sometimes sympathetic but mostly vicious crossover star, and Clare Bowen’s Scarlett O’Connor is a revelation.

Nashville has all the sex, intrigue and power plays that one would look for in an hour-long drama, but the music and beautiful Tennessee backdrop set it apart. Oh, and did I mention the rhinestones? This is country music, after all.
