As you probably know, actor, humanitarian, race car driver and top chef Paul Newman passed away this weekend at 83 after a long battle with cancer. Oh Paul! I bet my Mom is really sad… She loves Paul Newman. I think her fave movie is The Sting. Most of you prolly know Paul and his wife Joanne Woodward for their signature line of salad dressings, but Paul is an Oscar winning actor and American icon first and foremost. Many cite Paul (with Marlon Brando ) as creating the modern form of acting that we see today by stripping away the hyper drama of stage and creating a more realistic approach. Our hearts and prayers go out to Paul’s family and friends for their tragic loss. Paul, you’ll be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Butch! Do y’all have a fave Paul Newman film or story? Please share your memories with us of this unforgettable man!
I was really involved at the Westport Playhouse the past couple years, I wrote as a press correspondent. I’ve seen Paul a couple times there and his wife Joanne is Artistic Director. She’s so sweet! Paul is all about WCP- his adjoining restaurant, the refreshments are all his, he really donated for a lot of the renovation, and they have this curtain with his name all on it. He was supposed to make his directorial debut with “Of Mice And Men,” this October, but he had to give it up during the summer. It’s just going to be so odd without his presence there.
