I’m SO sad. When I was little, I was obsessed with watching the Golden Girls. I spent so many nights, nuzzled next to my Aunt Judy, watching the Golden Girls on Nick-At-Nite, until like 2am! When I was 7yrs old, we took a trip to Disney World and the highlight of my trip was when we took the driving tour past the Golden Girls actual house! So this loss is like losing my granny. Bea Arthur was so amazing and her passing is such a huge loss. Betty White (Rose) and Rue McClanahan (Blanch) both put out statements about the loss of their bestie, Bea Arthur.
Here’s what Betty had to say: “I knew it would hurt, I just didn’t know it would hurt this much.. I’m so happy that she received her Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still with us, so she could appreciate that. She was such a big part of my life. I have dearly loved her for a very long time. How lucky I was to know her.”
And here’s what Rue said: “Thirty-seven years ago she showed me how to be very brave in comedy. I’ll miss that courage and I’ll miss that voice.”
I’ve posted the Golden Girls theme, so you could have a mini flashback to when Bea (Dorothy) was a part of your life as well! Her family and friends are in our thoughts and I can guarantee that I’m going have a Golden Girl marathon tonight.Thank you for being a friend!
I was really saddened to hear about this. Perhaps I’ve said it before here, but I’ll say it again. Golden Girls was ahead of its time and is still relevant (and damn funny) today. Bea was not my favorite, but she is totally memorable.
Thanks for posting this, Jen. I love Bea!
