I’ve never actually felt “country pride” at the fourth of July fireworks… But I have to say, this weekend’s firework extravaganza was MIND BLOWING. For all of you that witnessed the amazing Macy’s Fireworks on the Hudson River, I’m sure you feel that same way… It was beautiful to watch 30 minutes of lights, colors, glittery golds and huge booms! I was so happy to be where I was (on the roof of an office building on the Hudson) and surrounded by friends and family. What a perfect 4th of July! I started at the beach, ate a hot dog, took a nap and then made my way thru thousands of New Yorkers to see tha show! Hope you all had as great of a day as I did! LET’S HEAR WHATCHA DID!! Spill your guts and I’ll give you a gift certificate for $25! Leave a comment and I’ll pick the winner on Friday, July 10th.
The fireworks look amazing! Unfortunately I had a dull Fourth-I had to work all night!
comment by Vanessa — July 6, 2009i was in nyc this weekend (and visited ff on friday, so great to meet chris and keith =D) and saturday was a great day. my brother and i went to coney island in the morning, and i’d never been so we walked around and witnessed the madness about an hour before the hot dog eating contest started. we went on the pier and it was such a great view… then we hopped over to battery park and saw jenny lewis and conor oberst!! it was an amazing concert and a beautiful day so that part was close to perfect. after the concert we were going to go see the fireworks but we were kinda tired so we went back to his apartment and watched them on tv. still great though! it was such a good day.

comment by Jennifer — July 6, 2009My sister and I went to our friends party, since we didn’t have any family thing going on. I played some badmiton, got DRENCHED from standing next to the pool- I couldn’t swim- bvt hey, it dried!
Made smores, saw who could be the best con man (I’m not very good), ate a lot of chocolate, got a million mosquito bites, and watched some small-scale fireworks. Good times. (:
comment by Dylan — July 6, 2009I went to a 3RD of July BBQ on Friday, then on Saturday night jumped on my bed in order to see fireworks out the window and over the apartment building next door!
comment by andreajean — July 6, 2009I have the pleasure of living in the District of Columbia itself — lemme tell you, living in DC is so. much. fun. for the 4th!!! I did the usual BBQ hopping…drank lots of good wine (Veno Verde, most notably) on lots of old DC porches in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. (I counted 14 cook-outs in the span of 2 square blocks!) Then, at around 8:30, the ENTIRE neighborhood crowds itself at the corner of 13th and Clifton Streets NW because it’s the highest point. We basically shut down the intersection because it’s the BEST place to watch the national display of fireworks. On the right-hand corner of the sky, the National Mall’s fireworks exploded, but from that spot, you can see the entire city — so many little patriotic explosions. Here’s a small taste… http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=july+4th+dc&d=posted-20090704-&ct=0&mt=photos&adv=1
comment by Emily — July 6, 2009The fourth of July is my favorite holiday and not just because of the fireworks and BBQs – because it’s my birthday! I only turned 20, so I imagine next year my fourth of July will be pretty raucus.this year it was low key. I spent the holiday/birthday with my boyfriend and family in California (I’m from NJ) with a town parade, gifts =), and the fireworks. We had to get to the fireworks early to get a good spot so we decided to bring America edition Monopoly with us so we’d have something to do while we killed the time. I hadn’t played Monopoly in forever, so it was so much fun (and I ended up winning). Happy Birthday America and Me!
comment by Jerz — July 6, 2009I went to a big cook-in (because it was raining), and we sat around and ate and laughed and watched the Boston Pops on TV. Plus, there were these dogs, Harry and Russ, who were running around and cracking us up. It was a fun time.
comment by Tommy — July 6, 2009I made some adorable cupcakes that were red, white, and blue cake batter, and then sprinkled them with tinted coconut… YUM! Then we BBQ-hopped to visit friends and mixed in a little time at our town’s street fair. Fireworks at a friends house, and amazing chicken for dinner!
comment by Stella — July 6, 2009I spent my 4th of July in 2 different ways. Fist i helped my dad with his booth at The Lions Club Fair. The kids tossed rings onto bottles of pop. 50 cents for 4 rings and you get a candy bar no matter if you get a ringer or not. We had cute little stuffed teddys for the prizes. Later i had to go into work. I work at a child care center for low income families. I spent the night with one little 4 year old girl with flame red hair and freckles. Her mother had to work, and her father is fighting in Irak. We ran all over the center trying to find the best view of the fireworks. In the end, our only view was blocked by trees. But, that didn’t stop our fun. We ended the night on the front porch of the center eatting ottar pops and throwing poppers. *snap snap* I think it was one for the memory books.
comment by Laura — July 6, 2009*otter pops* oops
comment by Laura — July 6, 2009I worked during the morning of the 4th…hmmph, but the day got so much better! I spent the 4th of July with my brother, cousin, and a bunch of friends randomly drifting in and out of our house. My friend made the BEST burgers in the world (on the stove, sadly…still delicious!) and I made peach cobbler from scratch – yes, very proud of myself indeed. We watched fireworks from the front of our house, played hours of Rock Band, talked about everything…and I went to sleep at 4 in the morning.
Best 4th of July so far!
comment by Valerie — July 6, 2009well i watched fireworks, of COURSE! but i also saw this really cool thing called waterfire, where these big fires are all lit in a row down a river, and music plays and gondolas row along. it’s really amazing and peaceful to just sit and watch the fire flicker and reflect in the water, especially on a loud and crazy day like the 4th!
comment by gracie — July 6, 2009Had a faaab fourth here in Southern California! Had some yummy food, fireworks, laid out by the pool, and had some good times with the family running around Newport Coast in my peppermint hard candy heart sunnies ala fred flare! i bought a couple extra pairs to give to my two 16-ish cousins. photos turned out super cute – see them here http://thedailylindsey.wordpress.com/
comment by Lindsey Anne — July 7, 2009For my fourth of July, I ate a picnic with my family on our new patio set in our small Ohio town. When it was time for fireworks put on by our local chamber of commerse which were decent. My family and I enjoyed watching from the end of our street with all of our neighbors. the park where they shoot them off is directly across from our hill, so we had a perfect viewing spot. then my sister and i caught fire flies with the little neighbot kids, and did sparklers and those tacky, but ammusing snakes! what a great fourth!!!
comment by Alana — July 7, 2009I was on the North Carolina coast; I started off the day with a parade in Beaufort, which is celebrating its 300th year this year, and then I moved onto a patriotic concert, then we went to lunch on the waterfront where I had a nice American burger, and that night we went to a fireworks show in Morehead City where we listened to great beach music and ate pizza, and my cousin and I went down to the dock and sat and watched the most beautiful fireworks over the water. After that my 8-year-cousin and I danced to more beach music.
It was a great day.
comment by Rachel — July 8, 2009So I am moving to California in 4 weeks and my Birthday was on June 30th and I honestly wasn’t expecting-little did I know my fiancé planned a weekend of a lifetime for me.
I was given a handmade card (which is amazing) and it had a checklist of the things I would need which included a swimsuit, a dress, camera, etc. My surprise was that we were staying at a fancy hotel on Michigan Ave. In Chicago to watch fireworks in Grant Park!!
I have been so consumed with packing and house hunting that I thought it’d be an uneventful 4th. So we grabbed our carry along chairs and sat on the harbor with the beautiful Chicago skyline smiling doWn on us. I must say it was the best Birthday/4th of July ever! What a way to say goodbye to the city I love!
comment by Ashley Hartwig — July 8, 2009I had to work the morning of the fourth of July, but when I got home we grilled burgers. Then we went to fireworks, but we didn’t know if they would have them because it had been raining earlier that day and the ground was still wet. Over all it was one of the best $th’s I’ve had in a while.
comment by katalin — July 10, 2009The 4ht?! ya that was my birthday. The only bad thing? oh ya, my friends and most of my family “had to much on there minds” and “didn’t know”… I’m not very happy. Because i remember there’s every year!!!
