For those of you who missed it, last week there was a fun little scandale that happened with this cute e-blast featuring our fave gal Bee illustrated by UK supernova Gemma Correll. Apparently, some folks were NOT amused. Demicouture had this to say:

That’s kinda ouch!! Gemma, understandably, had her own point of view on the matter so she commented, only to have it swiftly removed by the blogger. Gemma had taken a screen shot of the comment and then posted in on Flickr. LOVE THAT. You’ll see it below:

That’s how I discovered it… TONS of people joined the debate after that. It’s a pretty fun read so defs check it out here. Pretty interesting back and forth at the original post as well so that’s worth a visit, though further comments have been disabled on this for some reason:( No hard feelings to Demicouture AT ALL… Everyone is welcome to their opinion and mostly I think it’s all so unexpected+hilarious. What did you guys think anyhow?
Keith I’m so glad you posted about this! I think it’s totally cool if people are honest and voice their criticism IF they express that in an eloquent and tactful way. Contrary to this girl’s statement, the e-blast was a total SUCCESS!
comment by Nicole — September 25, 2009I have nothing against the drawings. Did they make me want to buy Fred Flare merchandise? Not particularly. The rest of the website does though
And I do. Often. I’m wearing my cupcake beanie right now!
comment by Raven — September 25, 2009Quelle scandale… LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
comment by Chris — September 25, 2009wow. Everyone has the right to voice thier opinion good or bad. The blogger did NOT need to say it like that. I will buy Fred Flare things regardless of a cartoon or not. E-Cards are fun. The blogger is a hater.
comment by Pam — September 25, 2009As an art teacher, I love it when people talk about art. Its such a subjective thing and people always get fired up about it.
comment by sara — September 25, 2009I think the drawings are TOTALLY ace. And hello, it’s not like ff.com is completely devoid of hawt product shots (holla atcha Chaunté!). The ecard was something new and different and most of all, FUN! I definitely agree that holding one’s own opinion, whether it be positive or negative, is a basic right, but being downright mean is uncool. But hey, inspiring debate is totally awesome…and maybe got some more people to come check us out! xoxo, Bee
comment by Bee — September 25, 2009What we can expext about a blog that has A tag “I Love Fur”? It’s evident that they just want some attention…
comment by Renata Valois — September 25, 2009As a long time fan and buyer of fredflare using Gemma’s art is just another cute and creative way to show there producuts and get you to follow the link to there website and check stuff out. The one thing I have always loved about this company is the new and fun ideas they have to promote there products. I personally love the drawings. As a graphic designer who is still a child at heart these drawings fit my taste.( I know it’s not everyones)
comment by Tara — September 25, 2009but I think its just silly to get all worked up over something like this. That blogger must have had nothing else to blogg about that day. I can’t speak for the artist but I’m sure her goal to make people happy with her art.
i LOVED the drawing! but, i also love the ugly dolls and bla bla stuffed animals–the ugliness/awkwardness is the irony!! the blogger needs to let go a little bit and find the humor in the drawing.
comment by calista — September 25, 2009WOW! Crazy! I would be so bummed if someone did the same thing to me about my work. And I think that post says a lot about that girl and how she views the world, rather than post about things she loves she would rather post about things she doesn’t like… I don’t get it… there are sooo many things to get really and TRULY annoyed and bothered by and she chose to pick this? bizarre. Like my mother has always told me “if you can’t say anything nice, then just don’t say anything at all” and p.s. I adore this illustrator and DO look forward to the e-cards!!! keep em coming! xoxo
comment by ROXY MARJ — September 25, 2009I agree with Gemma. It’s important to remain postive when blogging and negative comments should be kept to yourself.
comment by Vanessa — September 25, 2009Also, btw, I love Gemma’s work… I own a print of hers and always look forward to new things from her. Love you Gemma!
what a beeyotch!!!! i love those e-cards! god forbid you guys come up with something creative instead of just a picture of the items! you should have more of gemmas work!!
comment by nicole — September 25, 2009When this happened I left a comment in support of Gemma, which was quickly deleted. A few hours later I left another, which was AGAIN deleted. ugh. The best part is that they weren’t even mean comments, especially in comparison to some of the others that were left. I think it’s pretty lame that this person is all about getting to voice her opinion, yet she has no problem silencing those of us who were commenting. But whatevs, Gemma is the best and who really cares what Negative Nancy thinks.
comment by lauren — September 25, 2009I think her illustrations are awesome! I’ve been following her work for awhile now and anyone who doesn’t get is probably a bit … well … old and past getting cool things. Sux to be them.
comment by Alida — September 25, 2009Okay I wasn’t going to say anything but as an avid blogger, I had to check out this Demicouture chick. Everything was fine until…SHE STARTED DISSING ON MY GIRL TAVI! Tavi, to me, is the definition of GENIUS. Love the girl to death, think she’s amazing and have been a supporter for over a year. To hate on her blog…that’s just jealously right there.
comment by Lil J [Jewlie] — September 25, 2009This is what happens when “independent” culture goes mainstream. I’d get used to this kind of nonsense, you guys. It’s not going away. The more shallow, sad little people air their “special” opinions on the internet, the more you can guarantee that you’ll read tacky little screeds like the one at Demicouture.
Keep up the great work, Gemma. Don’t let the haters get you down.
comment by Kourtney Lurve — September 25, 2009Dsssing on my gal Tavi? Awwwhailno! Excuse me but A) She’s thirteen and B) She’s frigging GENIUS.
comment by Keith — September 25, 2009What! Keith, I was so mad when I read this, it’s crazy! I really LOVED the cartoons, they’re quirky and cute, and creative, I mean, I tried scouring the website for some of the products drawn onto Bee precisely because I wouldn’t have otherwise noticed had they not be drawn and rendered so adorable by Gemma.
Fredflare, don’t let some blind and vicious girl doubt your judgements. I think most of us love the thoughtful and cute posts.
comment by ching — September 25, 2009Ditto what Jewlie & Keith said about Tavz. Girlfriend is crazy amazing and dissin’ on her is something you JUST DON’T DO. xoxo, Bee
comment by Bee — September 25, 2009that sucks that someone was hating on bee! i really like illustrations and like that ff was trying something new!
comment by karen — September 25, 2009you know,i’m a young artist and i really LUV these cartoons.i am super happy with what u r doing.as for gemma,U ROCK!!!
comment by emma — September 26, 2009
I like the drawings. They’re kinda creepy, but definitely super cute!! Don’t listen to the haterz; they just be jealous, gurl. -3-
comment by Ruthie — September 26, 2009GEMMA you rule i love bee. to me your artwork is the bomb so keep it coming
comment by iRMA — September 26, 2009I love this illustration series! It’s not like every other company’s mundane advertising style. It has moxie. And Bee.
comment by Tommy — September 27, 2009I loved Gemma’s artwork. When I got the email with Bee in it I went straight to Fred Flare to see the products. I must say that it did make me want to buy items! I love you Gemma!
comment by Emma — September 27, 2009I actually loved Gemma’s artwork. I can’t see how anyone could possibly insult her artwork like that. Anything is art, whether it’s childish or not. Gemma, just keep doing your thang
comment by Christine — September 27, 2009I love your works !
o wow. I personally love this style of illustration. I think it definitely works as a great advertising style for fred flare stuff unique and quirky :]
comment by Christine — September 30, 2009I think the cartoons are adorable. Not everything has to be super skinny models and dazzling images, I think these cartoons are a good way to advertise Fred FLare because FF is fun and bubbly
