Some of you know this, but some of you don’t. Before I started working at fred flare, I was a makeup artist… I did makeup for television shows, magazines, runway and even a few low-key movies! It was fun and I totally loved it, but it wasn’t as thrilling as I thought it would be. Luckily, after leaving the wonderful world of makeup, I fell into a company that let’s you wear a billion different hats! So even tho I’m the GM over here, I still get to do makeup once a week at our photo shoots! BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!
Another great part of working here, is I get a chance to try GREAT new products all the time. I kinda don’t think it’s fair to keep my findings to myself, so I think I’m gonna start giving you peeps the 411 on all the great beauty products out there… AND how to use them!

As you can see, we have some pretty spectacular models over here. Natalie (above) is fresh and fun and completely beautiful in every way! WE LOVE HER! And Sam (below) is classic and a little “boom boom pow”! She’s so great! BUT… The best part about both of these gals… They wear makeup like total champs! I hardly use anything on them, but look how beautiful they look!

Both of these looks are totally easy and you guys could do it at home in no time! Right now I’m completely obsessed with Benefit Cosmetics. From the foundation to the mascara, it’s all so fresh looking. After the jump, you can see all the great products I used on these luscious ladies.
Maybe I’ll start posting mini vids on how to apply the perfect brow or how to get a two minute sultry eye… Would you guys be interested in that?! Leave me a comment and let me know what you wanna know! I can help you look great. I’ll even give you some beauty products as a gift for leaving me a comment! So hurry up… COMMENT AND WIN!

These are my all time fave products right now! I use them in every photo shoot (almost) and I highly recommend each and every one of them! Medusa’s eye shadow is GREAT as a liner OR a smokey shadow, the CORALista is the most beautiful blush on everyone, powderflage can cover EVERYTHING and Dr. Feelgood can matte any shine you throw it on! Oh goodness… I’m completely obsessed! Okay, if you’re interested in HAWT makeup tips, comment, let me know what you wanna know and I’ll give you ALL tips you could ever want. AND I’ll send you a lil’ beauty giftie!
I’d LOVE to get makeup tips! I’m a 26 year old newbie to makeup and need all the help I can get. Advise from you would be a lot more welcome than trolling through youtube!
comment by Kirstin — October 16, 2009would be totally interested if you made mini tutorials…so DO IT DO IT… please =)!

comment by maya — October 16, 2009do you know how to make babydoll lips a la gaga? i’m being her for halloween bubble corset/suit and all!
ABSOLUTELY! i think it’s an absolute WONDERFUL idea! to be honest i’ve never worn make-up and i’m 18 because i don’t know how to put it on! oh gosh, i’m an insult to all girls out there hahaha i’ve looked at other make-up tutorials to try and pick up some tips but i never really liked the style but i REALLY like the fresh natural look you gave your models! i’d be SO trilled if you started a make-up tutorial blog! i’d really like to learn how to make my eyes POP! i’m asian so i naturally have tiny eyes and all-nighters don’t really make things any better, but i love that fresh dewy look that we usually see on t.v. and magazines, maybe that could be an idea for a future blog topic
comment by Cynthia — October 16, 2009I love makeup! How do you think you accomplish the perfect smoky eye?
comment by Kelsi — October 16, 2009<3
I actually have two questions:
1. How do I keep my shadow from creasing so horribly?
2. Can you recommend any good blushes for darker brown skinned girls?
Thanks!!!
comment by Natasha E. — October 16, 2009I’d love a make-up blog. I tend to stick to the same look as its all I really know what to do, so maybe being shown how to do other looks would inspire me to try some new looks

comment by Emily — October 16, 2009I have a few questions:

2. My hubby is Indian and LOVES me wearing eyeliner…could you please give me tips on ways I can change it up?
3. Bronzer is another everyday MUST for me. How do you recommend applying?

comment by Booties — October 16, 2009Wow! The girls looked beautiful to begin with, but the makeup just beautifully enhances their looks. I would love to hear how the makeup was used and applied; I’m not great at doing so myself and would love to learn.

comment by Maggiemaemary — October 16, 2009You did an amazing job Jen!! I love Benefit’s kits that you can sneak into a bag to take out for the night. They really make great proucts, but YOU, my darling make it look right on your models. My fav is the seond after because your model looks so confident and I know she LOVES how she looks!!
comment by Karen — October 16, 2009Ooops, in all my praise, I do want to know more about the smoky eye…. as maggiemaemary noted and brows, always a great thing to teach. I’d like to make my eyes look brighter and wider and just right.

Thank you,
comment by Karen — October 16, 2009k
This is fantastic. Great make-overs! I have trouble with either my eye-liner or mascara(or both?) getting in the creases under my eyes. I end up looking like i have black eyes! Any tips? Is it the crap eye-liner and mascara I use(Maybelline?) or is there some way to prevent this from happening?
comment by Jenn — October 16, 2009Hmm…I’d like to know what someone just beginning to use makeup should use. Perhaps something simple to start off with? I really want to know simple but pretty make-up tricks.
Thanks!
comment by Sarah — October 16, 2009I really love the light and natural look, but can never really achieve it on myself and actually have it look good. Also, I would love a great smoky eye!
comment by haley — October 16, 2009absolutely loving the idea, Jen! I constantly struggle with achieving that neutral look, without too much use of make-up, but still being able to look flawless! plus, do you have any recommendations for foundations?
comment by sara — October 16, 2009I would love some makeup tricks Jen, you always look super cute and never overdone! I’d just like some tips for my skin type/face…I’m a pale girl who has a rosy undertone I’m a brunette with bangs too if that gives you any ideas I’d love to hear them!!
<3
comment by Cassie — October 16, 2009Hi Jen! I used to be a make up artist too and I know what you mean…it’s definitely not all that exciting unless you’re SUPER into craft services, cause that’s where you’ll be cooling your heels for most of the day once the initial makeup has been applied. I didn’t know that you did the models’ make up and I think it looks awesome! I love Benefit cosmetics too… favorite products are the Benetint for cheeks and lips and their adorable lip and eye palettes that come out a few times a year.
comment by Sonya — October 16, 2009I love benefit!!! I am super super obsessed with the Bad Gal lash! No other mascara I’ve tried has given me the look it does. I use Stila for eyeshadow though, I’m obsessed with their ‘kitten’ colour. I’m also obsessed with Benefit’s ‘benetint’. Nothing else will make my lips look so cute.
I’d also like to know how to get the perfect smokey eye. It’s something I think would look great on me but I’ve got no idea how to get it.
comment by nicole — October 16, 2009Definitely would be interested. I have no idea how to put on make-up (other than the mineral foundation and eyeliner) and I’m 21. SO YES, please. (!)
comment by Carina — October 16, 2009Tricks for a skin with acne? and smoky eyes too! such a great idea!
comment by Lucía — October 16, 2009I’m 20 but I look super young. How can I use makeup to look older without overdoing it? I normally don’t wear makeup but would love to learn how to apply *minimal* makeup for nights out. I have small eyelids too, which makes eyeshadow hard to apply correctly. Any ideas?
Thanks!
comment by Jessica — October 16, 2009I agree about how to make our eyes look bigger! And how do you do that cat’s eye right? It always ends up looking like Halloween makeup on me! I also would love to know how to pick lipstick shades that don’t look tacky
comment by Annam — October 16, 2009it would be really cool if you posted videos! The girls look so pretty! Do lipstick videos! So confused about lipstick. it’s so pretty, but I hate not knowing what will look good.
comment by Sami — October 16, 2009How do you cover up dark circles under your eyes? Love Benefit cosmetics though, and the packaging is so beautiful!
comment by Danielle — October 16, 2009omg, what a pretty model!a makeup toturial soounds fun
comment by jaz — October 16, 2009I do like Benefit cosmetics and might like a tutorial, especially if maybe you have advice for some Asian-shaped eyes, both with and w/o the crease? For example on ANTM, the Asian contestant recently overdid her eye makeup. And I have been curious about trying a “smoky eye” look but I don’t think I can work that because I have a slightly bulgy eye –totally normal, but you know, different from the usual Euro face which is usually used in examples. So I tend to avoid putting anything under my eye because I think it just looks odd. Help on that would be great!
comment by June — October 16, 2009i’m always in need of makeup tips! this would be amaze, jen… i can already tell by these pictures you’d know what you’re talking about!!
comment by ang — October 16, 2009Jen I would LOVE it so much if you did make-up tutorials! How about how to use liquid eyeliner – for day AND for night? How to pick the right red lipstick? How to keep your skin matte all day long without caking on makeup? Cover-up for girls who don’t want to wear a full face of make up? So many questions!
comment by Ann — October 16, 2009Pretty please do a book or something!! this WILL be a hit.
comment by Monica — October 16, 2009I love this post. I need to try some of this make-up. it looks like it makes your skin glow.

comment by beth — October 17, 2009great makeup tips…i agree about a book!!
I’m dressing up as a flapper this Halloween and would love some tips to take my smoky eye, red lip up a notch to a Halloween worthy face. I want to look pretty turned up a notch, not like I’m 6 and just got into mom’s makeup.
Thanks!!!

comment by Keith — October 17, 2009Amazing!! Benefit makes the best products. . .I’m always looking for that no-makeup makeup look <3
comment by Tina — October 17, 2009I’m loving the idea, Jen! I’ve been in a bit of an eye make-up slump lately – just a bit of mascara and I call it good. I love the natural, fresh look and you’ve done a great job on the models – so please do, bring on the tutorials!
comment by LilyT — October 17, 2009JEN. This post is AH-mazing!! I’m completely hopeless at makeup…pretty much I have my 94¢ drugstore black eyeliner pencil and my chapstick and that’s as fancy as I get. I would SO love to get tips & tutorials on how to do fab makeup…though if you could start from the VERY basics that would be awesome. I don’t even know where to start! xoxo, Bee
comment by Bee — October 17, 2009yes please show some tips on how to best cover up freckles and such or how to prevent foundation from cracking at the end of the day and what BRONZER do you recommend?
comment by gillie — October 17, 2009Hey Jen,
I love this post! I’m really enjoying playing with makeup at the moment (got to love this one amazing reddy bronze-coloured glittery eyeshadow I picked up from Boots – this totally awesome chemist in England) but I am wondering… does anyone else get watery eyes after they put eye makeup on or is that just me? Either way, keep it coming Jen, I’d be definitely interested in learning more!
comment by Rachael — October 17, 2009i would LOVE if you could set up a tutorial on smokey eyes! i’ve been trying with some navys and mauves but i need some help!
comment by yasmina — October 17, 2009I’m crazy about cosmetics! I’ve been looking for great products for great prices. My friends are calling me “the crazy girl on ebay”. haha
comment by Cyntia — October 17, 2009I found so many lovely things there…and i can’t wait to try benefit’s cosmetics. =D
1.)I love a glossy lip but hate constantly having to reapply it. Do you have any suggstions? ( BTW that red lipstick looks fab!) 2.) how do you cover up dark circles? I can conceal them for awhile with my sunnies, but it’s not work appropiate. 3.) I would love to be Lady Gaga for Halloween. Any ideas?
comment by Henny — October 17, 2009I’m extremely pale and I have darker circles under my eyes, I think because I am so light. Is there any kind of a concealer to blend it better? And I’d also like to know how to use glitter and bright colors on pale skin. Thanks Jen!
Natasha E.- I’ve been using Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow primer potion, which is an eyeshadow base. It works really well when you want your eyeshadow to stay on longer, and not crease or smudge:)
comment by Jess — October 17, 2009Yes, please do post videos! I was a tomboy growing up but am now trying to embrace my inner girly-girl. I’ve never had much practice with eyeshadow, so any tutes on application would be appreciated, all my attempts look like a 5 year old who got into mommy’s makeup
comment by Stefi — October 17, 2009Yesyesyes! Tutorial vids is an awesome idea! Especially quick and onthego ones please! Also i’d love to hear your recommendations on natural looking makeup. And what’s the best foundation out there. I can’t wait to see what you do with this!
comment by Amy — October 17, 2009I love Benefit Bad Gal Lash Blue. I put it over a coat of black and it gives me giant lashes and great big eyes!! Makeup is so awesome!
comment by Meredith Peters — October 17, 2009What can I do to make my green eyes stand out more?
comment by Alexandra — October 17, 2009jen this is a great idea! i would love to learn all the techniques that you know. especially smoky eyes i always have an issue with! i would also love to learn how to make the perfect red lip.! cant wait to see <3
comment by iRMA — October 17, 2009See, this is how I know you are a great makeup artist. You created the best version of themselves!
I like how you created such an even and smooth complexion. How did you do that?!
comment by jen — October 18, 2009I need help with eyeliner so any tips on that would be greatly appreciated!
comment by Leah — October 18, 2009here’s my dilemma: i have lots and lots of gorgeous freckles. i never wear foundation because it just looks fake.. do you have any ideas on what i can use for sheer coverage that will look natural in photos? i noticed that one of your models has freckles too, and she her skin looks great! and you didn’t “erase” her freckles.
comment by camille — October 18, 2009I would totally love to see some makeup tutorials it would make fredflare more well rounded in all aspects of fashion! Please, please make some vids. Also with the eyebrows, I always wondered what is the best way to go about shaping them? Tweezers? Waxing? Threading? What are the pros and cons. Also, love how you transform those girls from beautiful to gorgeous!
comment by Lucy — October 18, 2009THANKS!
comment by Jessica — October 18, 2009jen, this is stunning!!!
comment by Chris — October 19, 2009let me win something!!
comment by germaine — October 20, 2009I simply adore how they’re skin looks, and it doesnt even look like theirs tons of makeup on their faces. I want to see how to do good brows, and great skin haha please and thanks
comment by Erica — October 20, 2009Wow. These girls are gorgeous.
comment by Tessa — October 20, 2009I wanna know how to do a Megan Foxx-esque smoky eye. I’ve watched tons of how to videos on you tube, but so far I don’t like anyone’s tips. They all do it differently and claim simplicity. Can a smoky eye include any look from a smudgy eyeliner to a fully shadowed eye?
p.s. – I’m addicted to Fred Flair. I think there should be an anonymous group meeting. hahaha
comment by Jackie Oh — October 21, 2009omg yess!!!! i love benefit too and i love to wear makeup but sometimes i have no clue on how to wear it and get it just right. yess!!! i think you should do it!!
