all this week from fredflare.com daily dispatches from Paris! tues: marie & the moulin paris postcard from fredflare.com's Keith & Chris Last night we saw Sofia Coppola's ?Marie Antoinette? - It's already been released in France!
It was awesome. Actually, if this can be said about a film, it was delicious, like eating twelve courses of dessert! I'm not going to say too much about it because I always hate when people ruin things and the internet is crazy like that. You can read everything about everything before you see anything. Chris was making me crazy trying to film scenes with his video camera in the theatre so he could post 'em on YouTube for you but I kept poking him and making him stop. I'm a goody two-shoes and did not want to get arrested on my first night in France. Sorry! Anyway, the film is really beautiful, very rich, in all senses of the word. There's so much to look at visually - great costumes and sets and makeup - and then it's so rich in the sense of like a rich dessert. You just see piles and piles of yum desserts everywhere... The music is great, too. I'm hoping since the movie is out that the soundtrack is out here also and I can pick up a copy or two to give away on the site.... I'll let you know what I come up with. Yeah, the movie is pretty amazing. Lots of fun scenes of kings and queens causin' a ruckus to awesome new wave music from my childhood. What more could you ask for? I felt kinda wired inspired after it. I wanted to cause a ruckus too! I wanted to grab Chris and say, let's run over and disco with the Eiffel Tower or something, let's get crazy, we're in PARIS!! But we were both so tired... It was something like 4 in the morning New York time. The theatre we went to is called MK2 Quai de Seine and it's right on the water. There's a companion theatre across the way called MK2 Quai de Loire and you take a tiny boat from one side to the other. Oh, it was quite lovely. It reminded me of a dream I've always had, that probably everyone has. I would love to own an amazing cute fun little movie theatre one day. Going to see movies in New York is just awful. I hate it so much. But this place was a dream. It had several rooms, all simply decorated in rich red, great views, a couple cafes, a bookstore, what else? Just seemed like a great place to hang out. So we did. We sat at one of the cafes and ate quiche and salads and drank wine and ate dessert and then Chris smoked. See, we're taking to this French thing quite well. This is our hotel room... Philippe at the front desk is sooooo nice! tuesday's item du jour: VERY styleguides Paris, London, New York We heart Hotel du Petit Moulin! This adorable
boutique hotel features twelve rooms, all individually decorated by French supertalent Christian LaCroix. The peeps that work there are awesome. Big thanks to Olivier and Philippe for taking such great care care of the Flares. We chatted a lil' bit with Philippe over breakfast on our first full day in the city... Check out hoteldupetitmoulin.com! Tell us about your job. What do you do at the Hotel du Petit Moulin? I'm a receptionist and work at the front desk. I do my best to make our customers feel at home and enjoy their stay in Paris. I also take care of the bookings. We understand each room is special. We love ours! Do you have a favorite? My favorite rooms are a Superieure, room #304, which is mainly in the red tones, and an Executive one, room #403, which is under the roof. Can you tell us some of your fave places in Paris?
I like the place where I live, along the banks of the Saint Martin canal. There's a very good bistro/restaurant called l'Hotel du Nord which I often recommend to our customers and they just love it. Most of the tourists coming to Paris do not know that part of the city, and I think it's sad. What's your favorite park in Paris and why? Les Buttes Chaumont mainly because it doesn't look like a park. You feel you're in the countryside rather than in the city of Paris. Have you been here to New York? Any fave spots over here? Yes, I've been very often to New York. I love Greenwich Village! Can you tell us of any celebs who have stayed at Hotel du Petit Moulin? Any fun stories? No, I can't for privacy reasons. I'm sure you can understand that. I just can tell you that a very famous American female rock singer and two American actresses stayed here. No fun stories, really. All those people were very sweet and charming. The US female rock singer was ADORABLE!!! hotel du petit moulin ...visit hoteldupetitmoulin.com tomorrow's episode: meet us for lunch at colette!
